Zstd

Compress and decompress files with Zstd

What is Zstd?

Zstd is a compression format, similar to ZIP/GZIP. It offers either faster compression/decompression speed or better compression efficiency than its older relatives, sometimes both at the same time. However it is not as widespread, so additional tools can be required to use it. If you don't have any software at hand, this webpage allows compressing and decompressing a file with the Zstd algorithm.

Privacy

The file you select is processed only in the browser and never uploaded to a server. However I can't do much to prove this, so you should be cautious. For those who care about this, the best way to have at least some evidence for this statement is to observe the network monitor in your browser developer menu, which should show no network activity after the page has loaded.

Maximum File Size

The file is handled in browser memory, so the maximum file size is heavily restricted. It should work up to 100 MB or more, but large files can lead to errors, the browser hanging for a few seconds or may crash the browser tab - be careful!
